Statement:
As an artist, I’m interested in a free interpretation of life’s experiences. My work is alive with line and movement which conveys my feelings about life’s landscape. To do this requires mastery of one’s medium of choice and for allowing direct response to internal feelings, watercolor, paper and brush, with which I initially learned to paint, I found to be unsurpassed. Following an initial application of paint, organizing a chaos of emotions into a coherent arrangement could be accomplished with the medium.

My paintings began as an interpretation of landscape and then more recently cityscape, and my intention was to capture the essence of a place or of a feeling. Ultimately finding myself limited by watercolor and paper, I determined to gain mastery of acrylics and canvas to enable my work to develop in size. The larger canvases released me from the unnecessary constraints of the rational mind and my creativity was set free. Reviewers and gallerists now consider my work to be in the genre of Abstract Expressionism.

I believe that the moving power of all artists is a vivid sensibility and impulsiveness and that art reflects life in general as well as the individual artist in particular. I believe that art rises in a kind of inner turbulence and is rarely produced in isolation from impact of the social environment in which the artist lives or works.
